Context

A court-appointed assessor who inspects used cars at the buyer’s location before they sign anything. The service was sold over the phone, with all the friction that implies: calling during business hours, agreeing a slot by voice, invoicing afterwards.

The brief was to turn that into an online booking: pick a slot, pay, done.

Approach

  • Apple-style restraint applied to a sector that doesn’t use it. Large white serif over petrol blue, real photography of a handover, and three trust signals under the buttons. No car icons, no gradients.
  • Real time-slot booking through FluentBooking, embedded in the template rather than linking out to an external Calendly. The user never leaves the domain, and the brand doesn’t break mid-conversion.
  • Payment taken at booking time via Stripe. It cuts no-shows and removes the invoicing back-and-forth.
  • Motion conditional per template. GSAP with ScrollTrigger only where it earns its place, and excluded entirely from forms and the booking flow. On a screen where someone is entering payment details, animation is noise.
  • PHP 8.2 with type hints and sanitisation on every inputsanitize_*, wp_kses and prepared statements. This is a form collecting number plates, phone numbers and payments.

What I built

  • Bespoke WordPress theme with its own design system in theme.json
  • Booking engine with time slots and email confirmation
  • Payment gateway integration
  • GSAP motion layer, conditional per template and honouring prefers-reduced-motion
  • Technical SEO and a blog for organic acquisition
  • Client-editable admin for content and pricing

Outcome

Live on its own domain with booking and payments working. The client edits content and prices from the WordPress dashboard without touching templates.
