Context
A mattress shop in Ávila that sells only online, with no physical store: mattresses, lift-up storage beds and upholstered bases, with delivery included in the city and surrounding area.
You don’t buy a mattress like a book. There are sizes, firmness levels and the question of whether it fits up the stairs. The client wanted to have that conversation, not replace it with a cart.
Approach
- The sale starts with a conversation. Every product page has sizes, features and a spec sheet, and ends in a WhatsApp button with the model and size already written. A person prepares the quote.
- Motion that doesn’t cost the LCP. Nothing starts invisible: the hero only animates
transform, so the headline and buttons are there from the first frame. GSAP loads afterloadand at idle time, only on pages that use it and never under reduced motion. - Native page transitions. View Transitions in CSS, no client router.
- Privacy by design. No cookies, no local storage, no third-party requests: fonts and images are served from the site’s own domain. That’s why there’s no banner to accept.
- SEO and AI search. Online-store structured data on every page and breadcrumbs on product pages, a generated
llms.txtand a social image per page, with a test that fails if one is missing.
What I built
- Static Astro architecture with a catalogue by product family and product pages
- Design system with an editorial serif, tuned in sizes and greys to meet AA contrast
- WhatsApp quote request with model and size pre-filled
- Motion layer with deferred GSAP and native View Transitions
- Mobile menu on a native
<dialog> - Contact form with honeypot, rate limit and consent
- Unit, smoke and axe accessibility tests
Outcome
Live on its own domain since September 2026. A catalogue that reads like a well-kept shop and always ends in a conversation with the person selling.
