Context
A gentlemen’s barbershop in Palma’s Vivero neighbourhood, open since 1989: classic cuts, straight-razor shaves, scalp treatments and head massage. Nearly four decades serving a local clientele.
It’s exactly the kind of business that gets sold an online booking system nobody uses. Here we decided not to build one.
Approach
- The conversion is the one that already works. WhatsApp and phone, not online booking. This shop’s customers book the way they’ve booked for thirty years, and putting a calendar in the middle adds friction without removing any.
- Craft as the visual argument. Black and white over warm black, with gold as accent. Photography of hands working with razor and comb, not studio interiors. The “37 years” seal is the only ornament.
- Copy without posturing — the site’s own text says as much. In a sector saturated with Nordic-styled barbershops, the argument here is continuity, not trend.
- Static Astro with no framework islands. It’s a five-page site: services, prices, contact and little else. There’s nothing to hydrate.
- Local SEO with business schema, physical address and opening hours, because the search that matters is “barber” plus the neighbourhood.
What I built
- Static Astro architecture, no CMS
- Design system with editorial typography and a gold-on-dark palette
- Services and pricing structure, editable from the repo
- WhatsApp and phone conversion, present on every page
- Local SEO with business schema and contact data
Outcome
Live on its own domain. A five-page site that loads instantly and won’t ask the owner to learn an admin panel.
A note on this work
Built at Xpandex, where I run the full cycle: design, development, performance, accessibility, technical SEO and deployment.
